On 24 July 2026, the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) had the honour of hosting a distinguished lecture by Ms. Anna Joubin-Bret, Secretary of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), at the AALCO Headquarters in New Delhi.
The event was inaugurated by H.E. Dr. Kamalinne Pinitpuvadol, Secretary-General of AALCO, and Mr. Mohammed Hussain K.S., Joint Secretary, Legal and Treaties Division I, Ministry of External Affairs of India, reflecting the close partnership among AALCO, UNCITRAL and the Government of India.
Held during the milestone year marking the 70th Anniversary of AALCO and the 60th Anniversary of UNCITRAL, the lecture highlighted the longstanding cooperation between the two organizations and their shared commitment to promoting the progressive development, harmonization and modernization of international trade law. Ms. Joubin-Bret briefed representatives of AALCO Member States on the outcomes of the 59th Session of UNCITRAL, with particular emphasis on the Advisory Centre on International Investment Dispute Resolution, investor-State dispute settlement reform, digital trade, electronic commerce, and other emerging areas of UNCITRAL's work programme.
The lecture was followed by an engaging interactive discussion, during which representatives of AALCO Member States exchanged views with the UNCITRAL Secretary on recent developments in international trade law and opportunities for enhanced cooperation. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr. Yong Zhu, Deputy Secretary-General of AALCO, who expressed sincere appreciation to Ms. Joubin-Bret, the Government of India, and all participants for contributing to the success of the event and reaffirmed AALCO's commitment to further strengthening its longstanding partnership with UNCITRAL.
The event reaffirmed the strong institutional partnership between AALCO and UNCITRAL and their shared commitment to supporting developing countries through dialogue, technical cooperation and capacity-building in the field of international trade law.
